Sonar Info:
Sonar, (SOund Navigation And Ranging), is a way to navigate by using sound waves. Some animals such as whales and bats, use sonar for hunting and navigation. Humans soon saw a use for sonar as a way to detect icebergs, and later submarines.
While there are two types of Sonar systems - active and passive (see page "Active Sonar/ Passive sonar" for more) - essentially they work the same way: they have receivers to determine where a sound comes from and what it is. Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_SONAR#ixzz1Fe6oSjSX
Today the main users of sonar are navies around the world to detect ships and submarines, and fishing fleets to find fish.
